For this book, Gonnie Tijs selected the works inspired by Vlieland from her many miniatures (gouaches). Here and there she provided them with short poetic texts. The book is an ode to the beautiful island with pages steeped in nature.
The wind, birds, sand, water and a single tree. People can only be seen vaguely on the beach or in a boat that swings up and down on the waves.
She doesn’t have a driver’s license. She does almost everything on foot, by bike, by bus or by train. The nice thing about it is that there is so much to see, hear and smell along the way. And you never take along more than you can carry. A delay or missing a train or bus can be annoying, but at the same time it gives an opportunity. You never know!
