50 I’m in puberty too is all about, for women, a turbulent phase of life. This is portrayed in thirty-five portraits of women from diverse backgrounds that are included in the book. Thirty-five photos and thirty-five different stories, with several striking patterns. Four essays – ‘The numbers’, ‘Time’, ‘The brain’, ‘The body’ – provide context.

At around the age of fifty, many women take stock of their lives: ‘I thought, fuck, who am I really?’; ‘I was angry. Constantly.’; ‘I had imagined the future very differently.’ They decide to turn their lives around: ‘Well, I left my husband. That’s how it is.’; ‘I’ve been forcibly wrenched out of my system.’ And they rediscover themselves: ‘Apparently I’m not so vulnerable.’; ‘I am discovering my sensuality again.’; ‘I see myself with surprise.’

50 I’m in puberty too has been made by women around the age of fifty. Their own experiences and their curiosity about others led them to make this book for everyone who is, was or will be fifty.
