Duijs photographed 30 dancers in the open air. He says:
Who are these people who are committed to their profession? If you’re somewhere in the middle of a theater hall and watching a dance performance, you see moving bodies. The dancers are almost anonymous, exchangeable for an outsider. I show dancers up close. While they are dancing and improvising, outside in nature. While doing what they love. I choose a moment when they make themselves vulnerable.
The dancers I photographed are mostly students and alumni of ArtEZ, bachelor’s degree program for modern and contemporary dance. They form a very diverse group: women and men with different nationalities, ethnic backgrounds and, which is not always obvious within the dance world, with different body types.
