Jasper Krabbé wandered through the depots of the Tropenmuseum. With the collection pieces he found there and his own work he then created ensembles that give a new and personal insight into both his own work and the collection.
This led to a wonderful exhibition and an even better book. Krabbé invites the viewer into his ideal house. A house with nine rooms. And so you wander through the Hallway full of textiles and erotic prints from China, through the Smoking Room with smoking paraphernalia and Indonesian portraits and through the dark Bedroom with cupboards and divining books from Sumatra. Every time, surprising, new connections are made between artists, materials and shapes and emotions and inspiration. Soulmade is a very personal book about connections between art from all corners of the globe.
Visual artist Jasper Krabbé (1970) comes from a whole family of artists. He graduated cum laude from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and the Cooper Union New York. Krabbé’s most recent significant solo exhibition was Closer to You in the Kunsthal Rotterdam.
