In his many paintings Diederik Stevens aims to depict a return to the source. Pristine, he calls it. His work, in which nature primarily plays a central role, is created using rough brushstrokes of acrylic or oil-based paint on canvas. From dark forests to raging waters, sombre railways and mighty hillside landscapes. His work is not only abstractly realistic in character, but he also gives his audience the feeling that they are taking part in the scenes. His book consists of a selection of his paintings created over a period of fifteen years and is intended as a tribute to the infinite beauty of nature.
Diederik Stevens, (Rotterdam, 1960), was schooled by academics in Paris, Rome and Antwerp. His works are primarily exhibited abroad. He became famous with
black and white cityscapes and seascapes, in which he embraces the purity of nature.
