More than thirty years after the great adoption wave, the adopted children have reached adulthood. In forming their identity they have had to unite two separate worlds, that of their origins and that of their upbringing. Coloured Identity presents portraits of forty adult adoptees in word and image. They explain openheartedly of their search for the puzzle pieces of their identity and the challenges they have encountered along the way.

Ton Hendriks is a documentary photographer and author. He has previously realised the projects Global Street Child, De Wilde Kust, African Village and Stadsgezichten – portraits of Amsterdamers. He also wrote Beeldspraak, a theoretical manual about photography. Ton Hendriks teaches about photography and writes for various magazines.
