The Dutch life stories of four fascinating women that are committed to the well-being of others, and not without danger. Although these women are from different countries, many of their experiences and feelings are universal and transcend all cultures. Myra de Rooy goes in search of their past and gains insight into the motives, passions, fears and dreams of these wilful and powerful women.

Geologist Myra de Rooy (1957) is a writer, photographer and also mountaineer. She has undertaken many solo trips in remote mountain regions. Her involvement, knowledge and friendship with the four women makes this a unique and sincere document in which travelling stories are woven together with life stories. Previous publications from her hand are Vrouwen in Boeddha’s Bergen (Women in Buddha’s Mountains) (2006) and Het windpaardhuis (The windhorsehouse) (2007).
