The Joy of Yayoi

In 1967, photographer Harrie Verstappen met Yayoi Kusama (Matsumoto, 1929), who until the early 1970s regularly lived and worked in the Netherlands for extended periods, where she became involved with the ZERO movement. He documented many of her happenings during exhibitions, in private homes and on the streets. Their collaboration not only produced compelling work, but also captures the spirit of the times.
